Development & Operational Software Requirements

The client software is written in Powerbuilder, Version 6.0. It runs on Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0 platforms. Spitfire uses Oracle's SQLNet to communicate with the RDBMS. It uses a set of TCP OCXs called IP*Works from DevSoft Inc. to communicate with the NetRanger Director via the rexec protocol.

A standalone application that is invoked from the client and used to retrieve files from the sensors via FTP was witten in Microsoft Visual Basic, version 6.0. This tool uses the Desaware ActiveX Gallimaufry HexEdit Control to provide a hex dump of IPlog files.

The Oracle RDBMS runs on either Unix or NT platforms, Spitfire has been used with versions 7.3, 7.4 and 8.05. The Oracle package DBMS_ALERT is used to communicate with the client to provide real time notification of new alarms.

The alarm loader for NetRanger is written in Oracle ProC.

The alarm loader for RealSecure is also written in Sybase Powerbuilder.

The Sybase Crystal Reports software is used to create reports from the database.
