PROPER is a set of routines for IDL to simulate the propagation of light through an optical system using Fourier transform algorithms (Fresnel, angular spectrum methods). It includes routines to create complex apertures, aberrated wavefronts, and deformable mirrors. It is especially useful for the simulation of high contrast imaging telescopes (extrasolar planet imagers like TPF). It is distributed as IDL source code, is well documented, and is relatively easy to use.

NOTE: Version 1.1 of the PROPER optical propagation library for IDL. This release includes bug fixes, addition of the /PHASE_OFFSET switch to PROP_RUN (plus removing phase offset during propagation as the default mode), and addition of additional hexagonal zernike terms (up to 22) to PROP_HEX_WAVEFRONT.
